Hardeman County Schools Fall Break Starts Oct. 12 in Middleton

Students at Middleton schools and across the district get a week off next week. Hardeman County Schools fall break runs Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, according to the district’s 2026-27 calendar, which the Hardeman County Board of Education approved on Feb. 10. Students won’t return the following Monday either: Oct. 19 is set aside for parent-teacher conferences and staff training, so the first day back in class is Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Hardeman County Schools fall break dates at a glance

The official district calendar marks each of these days as “no school for students”:

  • Oct. 12-16 (Monday-Friday): Fall break
  • Oct. 19 (Monday): Parent-teacher conferences, 8-11 a.m. and 3-6 p.m., with professional development for staff from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Oct. 20 (Tuesday): Students return to class

That adds up to six straight weekdays without classes, a stretch working parents in Middleton, Bolivar, Whiteville and the rest of Hardeman County may need to plan child care around. Families who want a conference slot on Oct. 19 should contact their child’s school ahead of time.

What comes next on the school calendar

The rest of the first semester has three more breaks:

  • Nov. 11 (Wednesday): Veterans Day, no school
  • Nov. 23-27: Thanksgiving break
  • Dec. 17 (Thursday): Half day, ending the first semester; Christmas break runs Dec. 18 through Jan. 1

Students go back on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027, after a staff training day on Jan. 4. The district’s 87-day first semester began Aug. 3.

Things to do in Middleton during the break

The Middleton Community Library, 110 Bolton Ave., has programs for kids and teens that week and the next, according to The Magnolia Post’s October listing of Hardeman County youth activities:

  • STEM Club: Thursday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.
  • Anime Club: Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m.
  • Movie Night and Board Game Night: Friday, Oct. 30, at 3:30 and 4 p.m.

The library’s number is (731) 376-0680. Middleton City Park, Big Hill Pond State Park and Chickasaw State Park are also close by for families looking to get outside now that cooler fall weather has arrived.

A reminder for older students

High school seniors in the Class of 2027 can use some of the time off to apply for Tennessee Promise, the state’s last-dollar community college scholarship. The application window is open through Nov. 2.

Parents should also note that early voting for the Nov. 3 general election begins during fall break week, on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Questions about the school calendar can go to the Hardeman County Schools central office at (731) 658-2510.
