March of Dogs Parade Set Oct. 24 in Bolivar, Hardeman County

The March of Dogs parade returns to downtown Bolivar on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, when Hardeman Adoptable Animals invites pet owners from across Hardeman County, including Middleton, to walk their dogs to the courthouse square for a free pet costume contest, music, food trucks and carnival rides.

This year’s theme is “Red, White & Rescue,” and organizers are encouraging both dogs and their people to show up in their most patriotic outfits. Costumes are optional, though, so any well-behaved pup and owner can join the walk.

March of Dogs Parade Schedule

Here is how the morning will run, according to details shared by the organizers:

  • 10 a.m.: Parade registration opens at Vaughan Oil, 913 West Market Street in Bolivar.
  • After registration: Participants march together from Vaughan Oil to the downtown square.
  • 11 a.m.: The free pet costume contest begins on the square, with prizes for participating pets.

Along with the parade and contest, the day will include music, food trucks, carnival rides and other activities, making it a family outing even for those who don’t bring a dog.

Rules to Know Before You Go

Organizers note that pit bulls will not be allowed to take part because of Hardeman County’s ban. Costumes are not required for the parade, and there is no charge to enter the costume contest.

Anyone with questions about registration, the route or the contest can call Cindy Hamrick at (731) 438-1722.

Supporting a Local Dog Rescue

Hardeman Adoptable Animals is a volunteer-run dog rescue based in Bolivar. The group takes in strays and surrendered dogs, then works to place them in new homes or with partner rescues. Community events like the March of Dogs give the rescue a chance to meet local families, highlight adoptable dogs and draw attention to its ongoing need for volunteers and donations.

For pet owners in Middleton and southern Hardeman County, Bolivar is a short drive north, and the late-October date falls just ahead of Halloween, which makes it a good warm-up for families already planning pet costumes this season.

More Fall Pet Events Nearby

Dog lovers in Tippah County have another costume option the following week. Ripley Main Street’s pet costume contest is part of the Spirit of Ripley festivities on Oct. 30 at The Cut-Off in downtown Ripley. Between the two events, local pets will have plenty of chances to show off their fall looks.

As always, owners should keep dogs leashed, bring water and plan for crowds, especially around the food trucks and carnival rides on the Bolivar square.
