28 children have died of Flu this season as 47 states, including MS, listed as “widespread”

The flu in Mississippi and nationwide has picked up over the last month with 8 of 9 flu regions in Mississippi reporting an uptick in the instance of influenza according to the MSDH.

Multiple school districts in Mississippi have reported closings amid large scale absences.

Nationwide, 28 deaths have been attributed to the flu.

The percentage of ILI cases increased in the 5-24 years of age group during the most recent reporting period. ILI is described as a fever over 100 degrees and a cough/sore throat.

Mississippi’s rate of ILI is 80% higher than the regional and national level for the most recent reporting period.
