Local police warning of scam using local county office number

Police in North Mississippi are warning of a scam where scammers are using a local county office number to attempt to get you to pay a non existent fine.

From the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department:

There have been reports from residents that they’ve received telephone telling them that they must pay a fine or face arrest by warrant if they don’t pay. The scammers reference a telephone number that happens to be the Chancery Clerks FAX number. We believe this is being done to legitimize the scam.

So if anyone looks up the number it will show it is to an actually County Office. Don’t be fooled by their tactics!! Please report any such calls to local Law Enforcement.
