Northeast Adult Education helps nearly 250 earn High School Equivalency diplomas

BOONEVILLE, MISS. — (06/11/2026) Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Adult Education Department helped 248 individuals from across northeast Mississippi and Tennessee earn their High School Equivalency (HSE) diplomas during the 2025-2026 academic year, opening doors to continued education and career advancement.
Among those graduates, 221 individuals reside within the college’s five-county service district of Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties.
Northeast’s Adult Education program served learners from 41 cities, towns and communities throughout the region.
While the majority of graduates are from Mississippi, five individuals traveled from neighboring Tennessee communities, including Pocahontas and Middleton, to complete their high school equivalency at Northeast.
Booneville led all communities with 66 graduates, demonstrating the city’s role in helping residents improve their educational and career opportunities.
Although more than 90 percent of HSE recipients came from within the five-county district, the program also supported students from a wide range of northeast Mississippi communities, including Ashland, Belden, Fulton, Hickory Flat, Holly Springs, Lamar, Mooreville, Pontotoc, Potts Camp, Sherman and Thaxton, among others.
Northeast celebrated the accomplishments of its graduates during the annual High School Equivalency Graduation Ceremony held Monday, May 18, inside Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
More than 150 graduates participated in the ceremony, marking the significant milestone in each of their individual educational journeys.

Funding from Accelerate MS enable NEMCC Adult Education students to not only earn their high school diploma but also short-term workforce training at the same time, graduating with both a diploma and an industry-recognized credential.
