Program for area senior citizens to stay active offered through Park Commission
The Ripley Park Commission is offering services for seniors in Tippah County. One of these is “Young At Heart”, a low impact aerobics class, as well as a walking track, for adults 50 years and up. This is held 5 days a week at the Park Commission gym in Ripley for just $3 a month to join. The class is from 8:30-9:30 AM Monday-Friday.
“Young At Heart” also offers arts/crafts classes at the Compton Center, located across from the park Commission gym. There, adults can partake in group classes teaching skills such as pottery, painting, quilting, and much more.
Another service offered is a travel group called “Golden Seniors”. At just $30/month, the group provides one day trip per month to local areas of interest. Twice a year, longer trips are offered to destinations such as Gatlinburg and Nashville, and a possible cruise is in the works for 2020.
Sign-ups begin in August and they hope to get as many adults involved as possible. If you or someone you know may be interested in these classes, you can contact Kim Hellum At 837-6747 for more information.
