Tippah County starts the week under a heat advisory that runs into Tuesday evening, high school volleyball teams are on the road and at home tonight, deer hunters are settling into a season with the same carcass and feeding restrictions as last year, and the fall calendar just filled up with a run of fundraisers and community events worth marking down now. Here’s what’s happening in Tippah County today, Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.
Heat advisory holds through Tuesday evening
The National Weather Service’s Memphis office has a heat advisory in effect for Tippah County from 11 a.m. today through 7 p.m. Tuesday, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 109 degrees. The advisory stretches across a wide swath of North Mississippi, West Tennessee, East Arkansas and southeast Missouri, and Tippah is named specifically in the alert area.
Alcorn News reports the advisory covers the western half of the Mid-South and warns of dangerously high temperatures continuing into Tuesday as an upper-level ridge holds over the Lower Mississippi Valley. It’s the same pattern Tippah News flagged Sunday, and it hasn’t broken yet.
With tonight’s volleyball games and any other outdoor plans — yard work, livestock chores, evening walks — shift the heavy lifting to early morning or after sunset if possible, drink water before feeling thirsty rather than after, and check on elderly neighbors or anyone without reliable air conditioning. Heat index values in the 105-to-109 range are dangerous even for people who feel used to Mississippi summers, and this advisory covers essentially all of North Mississippi, not just the counties along the river.
Volleyball across the county tonight
It’s a full slate of high school volleyball in Tippah County tonight. The Ripley Tigers travel to face Kossuth at 6 p.m., and the Falkner Eagles head to New Site, also at 6 p.m. At home, the Pine Grove Panthers host East Union at 6:30 p.m., and the Walnut Wildcats — fresh off a 19-4 split weekend at the Tupelo tournament — host Baldwyn at 6:30 p.m. Tippah Sports has the full rundown, with live-update links for each match on MaxPreps.
Hunters: CWD rules unchanged for 2026-27
Tippah County remains entirely inside Mississippi’s chronic wasting disease management zone for the new season, which means the same feeding and carcass-transport restrictions apply as last year. Supplemental feeding — feeders, salt licks, mineral licks — is prohibited countywide, and whole deer carcasses can’t be taken outside the zone. Hunters can still take a harvest straight to an in-zone processor or taxidermist, or send a deboned or bone-in cut without head or spine attached out of the zone. Properly cleaned antlers and skulls are also fine to transport. The restrictions exist because moving an infected carcass, or concentrating deer at a feeder, are two of the surest ways to spread the disease into new areas — worth keeping in mind before a hunting trip out of the county this fall.
Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday
The Tippah County Board of Supervisors holds its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the county building at 101 E. Spring St. in Ripley. The meeting is open to the public, a reminder worth passing along a day early for anyone who wants to attend or has business before the board.
Fall calendar fills up
A run of community fundraisers and events landed on the calendar over the weekend, and several sell out or need a headcount ahead of time, so here’s the rundown in date order:
Sept. 18 — Top Notch Pro Wrestling brings its “Summer Fallout” card to Blue Mountain, doors at 7 p.m. at the Empowered By Grace Community Center. Admission is $10; kids 4 and under get in free.
Sept. 19 — A community yard sale runs 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stop and Go on CR 700 in Blue Mountain. Vendor spots are still open.
Sept. 25 — The Ripley Fire Department is selling barbecue plates and hickory-smoked Boston butts to benefit fireman Jodie Crawford. Plates are $12, butts are $40, with pickup windows in the morning and afternoon.
Oct. 2-3 — The 27th annual Hines Farm Hopewell St. Jude Benefit Trail Ride returns to Walnut, with four rides, a cowboy dinner, live music and a Saturday auction, all raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Oct. 3 — Ripley’s square hosts an Oktoberfest celebration at Jefferson Street Tap Room, 5 to 10 p.m., with live music and cornhole. The same morning, Macs & Milli Kids Boutique hosts a Kids Fall Farmers Market where young vendors run their own booths.
Oct. 24 — Three Forks Fire Department holds its annual fish fry, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with fish or chicken plates for $12.
