A Look Back at the County Tournament

The Lady Wildcats defended their county crown on Saturday, Sept. 26, in a four-team round robin at Pine Grove. Walnut, Pine Grove, Ripley and Falkner each played the other three teams in best-of-three matches, and Tippah County Sports streamed every match online.

Walnut’s sweep of the individual awards fits its season. The Lady Wildcats went into the tournament with a 23-4 record and an unbeaten mark in Class 2A Region 1 play. Pine Grove’s Defensive MVP and its three all-tournament picks reward a Lady Panthers team that was on a five-match winning streak when it hosted the event.

Playoffs Ahead

With the regular season winding down, attention now turns to the MHSAA playoffs. In its announcement, Tippah County Sports said the area is “blessed with lots of great players” and urged fans to come out and support them in the postseason. Ripley has already wrapped up the Region 3-4A title for the second year in a row.

Congratulations to every player honored, and to the coaches and families behind them.
