Middleton basketball had a good Tuesday night on the road. The Middleton Middle School Lady Tigers and Tigers swept a doubleheader at Hornsby Elementary School on Oct. 27. The girls rolled to a 58-16 win, and the boys rallied from a halftime deficit to win 40-33.
The two wins keep the early-season momentum going for the Middleton Middle program. Middleton also recently picked up two wins over the Toone Bobcats.
Lady Tigers Take Control Early
The Lady Tigers never gave Hornsby’s Lady Bulldogs much room. Middleton led 18-6 after the first quarter and stretched the margin to 37-10 at halftime. Their defense held Hornsby scoreless in the third quarter, and Middleton led 52-10 heading into the fourth before closing out the 58-16 win.
1st quarter: Middleton 18, Hornsby 6
Halftime: Middleton 37, Hornsby 10
3rd quarter: Middleton 52, Hornsby 10
Final: Middleton 58, Hornsby 16
Middleton Basketball Boys Rally in Second Half
The boys’ game was a different story. The Hornsby Bulldogs came out strong and led 16-10 after one quarter. They were still ahead 20-16 at halftime.
Middleton turned things around after the break. The Tigers outscored Hornsby 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 31-27 lead. They held on through the fourth to win 40-33.
1st quarter: Hornsby 16, Middleton 10
Halftime: Hornsby 20, Middleton 16
3rd quarter: Middleton 31, Hornsby 27
Final: Middleton 40, Hornsby 33
Coming back from a halftime deficit on the road is a good test for a young team. The third-quarter run showed the Tigers can adjust and finish close games.
What’s Next for Middleton and Hornsby

A Busy Fall for Middleton Athletics
