The Mississippi Department of Transportation said it designated a stretch of Highway 363 as the Jakob Edward Kindt Memorial Highway. Kindt was killed in the AirCare 3 helicopter crash on June 26, 2025.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said State Route 178 will be closed between State Route 30 and State Route 9 from 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 for slide repair. Motorists will be directed around the closure and urged to slow down for crews.

The Tupelo Police Department said it celebrated the retirement last week of Chief’s administrative assistant Verita Marshall after nearly 25 years of service to the city and the department.

Police say Jamarian Donelson struck a person in the face with a firearm while intervening in an assault at Ballard Park. He was arrested June 24 and ordered held without bond June 25.

Authorities say Maila D. Carpenter attacked a person with a firearm at Gumtree Park on June 20. Carpenter was arrested June 25 and ordered held on a $30,000 bond.
