Heavy rain is expected to begin across the region late Thursday night and continue into Friday, forecasters said.
They warned stronger storms could produce localized flash flooding and severe microbursts.
Forecasters said the more intense storms could also yield heavier rainfall. A flood watch was in effect, and probability maps showed chances of 1-inch and 2-inch totals across much of the watch, forecasters said.
Officials urged residents to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, forecasters said.
