MDOT urges motorists to slow down in third day of ‘Star-Spangled Sign’ safety campaign

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said its Star-Spangled Sign safety campaign entered its third day with a message urging motorists to slow down during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The agency said the signs referenced the nation’s founders and reminded drivers they do not need to “set a new land-speed record” on the way to holiday gatherings. MDOT said the messages aim to reduce speed-related risks and keep people safe.

MDOT urged motorists to “ease off the gas” and to “aim for something a little more impressive as a legacy,” the agency said, adding that the goal is for everyone to enjoy the holiday and return home safely.

The campaign is part of tributes honoring America250 Mississippi, MDOT said. The agency has posted a series of safety messages as the holiday weekend continues.
