Mississippi DOT urges motorists to secure loads during America250 celebrations

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said on the second day of its Star-Spangled Sign celebrations for America250 that it is urging motorists to secure loads before traveling.

MDOT highlighted the use of ratchet straps and other tie-downs and urged drivers to secure coolers, canopies, camping chairs, luggage, grills, kayaks and food containers, the agency said.

The agency said unsecured items can detach from vehicles and create hazards on roadways and asked motorists to take a minute to check straps and tie-downs before hitting the road during the holiday period.

MDOT said the reminder is part of its Star-Spangled Sign activities honoring America250 and encouraged Mississippians to keep their belongings secured during the celebrations.
