MEMA warns of $150 scam targeting storm victims

MEMA said it has received reports that people are charging storm victims $150 to complete assistance applications for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration.

MEMA said FEMA, the Small Business Administration and MEMA do not charge for help filling out paperwork for disaster assistance.

MEMA urged residents to avoid being scammed and to use the agency’s website for official information and guidance on applying for assistance.

The agency said its website contains details on the application process and where residents can get free help with paperwork.
