Old National Guard Armory opens to collect donations for Tropical Storm Arthur victims

The Old National Guard Armory on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds will open Saturday, June 20, to collect donations for people affected by Tropical Storm Arthur and related flooding, Andy Gipson said in a news release.

The armory will accept donations Saturday until 4 p.m. and again Monday, June 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Gipson said. He said all donations will be transported to affected areas as soon as the areas are passable.

Gipson listed needed items as buckets, bleach, rags, paper towels and mops. He urged residents to bring only those items identified in the release.

Local churches were invited to coordinate collection and delivery at the armory, Gipson said. The State Fairgrounds are at 1207 Mississippi Street, Jackson, Mississippi 39202. Gipson thanked Mississippians for helping South Mississippi neighbors in need.
