Mississippi Department of Transportation urges trailer safety as summer towing increases

The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged motorists to review trailer safety tips as towing increases during the summer, the agency said in a social media post.

MDOT said drivers should understand the many components that make up a trailer to ensure safe towing. The department specifically pointed to loading, backing up and combating trailer sway.

The post noted people tow more in the summer for activities such as moving, camping and fishing, and advised motorists to be prepared before they tow.

MDOT used social media hashtags including #TrailerSafetyWeek, #TrailerSafety, #TowTips and #MDOTcares in the post and encouraged motorists to brush up on towing practices, the agency said.
