Mississippi DOT offers safety tips for National Bike Month
The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged cyclists to follow basic safety practices for National Bike Month, the agency said in a social media post.
The agency advised riders to check their bikes for proper fit, maintenance and tire pressure before heading out, the post said. It also said riders should always wear a helmet and double-check that it fits properly.
MDOT recommended wearing bright clothing or reflective gear to increase visibility. The post also reminded bicyclists that traffic laws apply to them the same as to motorists, the agency said.
The post included hashtags such as #BikeSafety, #BicycleSafety, #BikeMonth and #ShareTheRoad, and encouraged riders to enjoy the ride and Mississippi scenery, the agency added.
