Mississippi DOT says crews often serve as first responders during storms

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) said on social media that its crews often act as first responders during storms, arriving in MDOT trucks to clear roads and remove debris.

MDOT said its crews remove fallen trees, clear debris and reopen roads so communities can move again after severe weather.

The department said it honored its employees on National Public Service Day and recognized the many other public servants who respond when the state needs them.

In its post, MDOT included hashtags such as #MShwys and #PublicServiceDay, the department said.
