Pontotoc man sentenced to 45 years after manslaughter plea
Dalton Keith Wages, 21, was sentenced June 23 to 45 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the office of First Circuit District Attorney Jason D. Herring said in a news release.
Wages entered guilty pleas on June 17 to manslaughter with a gun enhancement, simple assault on a police officer and witness intimidation, the release said.
Circuit Court Judge John R. White imposed the combined 45-year sentence at a hearing on June 23, according to the release.
The manslaughter charge stems from the Sept. 17, 2022, shooting death of Matthew Tyson Westmoreland in Pontotoc County, the release said. The case was investigated by the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant District Attorneys Paul Gault and Sidra Winter prosecuted the case on behalf of the state, the release said.
