Mississippi DOT urges drivers to secure vehicles during Vehicle Theft Prevention Month

One vehicle is stolen every 48 seconds, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a social-media post.

The department said July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month and urged drivers to secure their vehicles. The post noted that Mississippi is not among the 10 states with the highest vehicle theft rates.

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials told drivers that thefts can occur in high-theft areas and quiet neighborhoods alike and encouraged people to make securing their vehicles a daily habit, the post said.
