Mississippi State Auditor Responds to Fitch v. White Ruling

JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White issued a statement Tuesday following the Mississippi Supreme Court ruling in the Fitch v. White case.

White said that with the court’s decision confirming that Attorney General Lynn Fitch has the sole authority to file suit to recover misspent taxpayer money, he expects Fitch to begin actively pursuing the recovery of welfare funds. White suggested Fitch may now change course and fight in court more aggressively for these funds.

White added that Mississippi taxpayers deserve no less from their officials. The statement did not specify whether White plans to take further legal action or how the ruling might impact ongoing efforts to recover misused funds.
