The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the eastbound lanes of State Route 18 before Siwell Road in Hinds County are closed until further notice after a road buckle caused by excessive heat.
MDOT said traffic is detouring around the closure via the shoulder. The agency posted the closure on its social media channels and maintains a map of the blockage on its traffic website.
MDOT crews are working to make a temporary fix to reopen the roadway as soon as possible, the agency said.
The department urged drivers to slow down, anticipate traffic changes and remain alert for roadside crews until repairs are completed.
