National Weather Service Seeks Public Comment on COOP Modernization

The National Weather Service published a Request for Comment in the Federal Register May 7 seeking public input on plans to modernize its Cooperative Observer Program, the agency said.

The agency said the modernization would harness new technology, optimize observation sites and leverage high-quality commercial data to improve the Cooperative Observer Program, also known as COOP.

The notice appears in the Federal Register under document number 2026-09099 and includes instructions for submitting comments, the Federal Register posting shows. The notice is available at https://federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/07/2026-09099/request-for-comments-on-the-national-weather-service-cooperative-observing-program-coop.
