NWS upgrades parts of Mississippi to slight storm risk
The National Weather Service upgraded portions of central, northern and eastern Mississippi to a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms, the agency said. The heightened risk is expected mainly between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 1, 2026.
The NWS said the primary threats are damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated severe thunderstorms.
The agency advised residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, know where they will go if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued, secure loose outdoor items and use extra caution when traveling during storms.
The NWS also urged residents to monitor local meteorologists and official forecasts for the latest information.
