Officials Urge Residents to Know Risk on Hurricane Preparedness Week

Officials marking Day 1 of Hurricane Preparedness Week urged residents to understand their specific risk before a storm approaches.

They said hurricanes don’t just impact the coast. Heavy rain, flooding, tornadoes and strong winds can affect communities far inland, officials said.

Officials said being informed is the first step to staying safe. When people know their risk, they can make better decisions for themselves and their families, they added.

Officials encouraged residents to review local hazards and prepare before a storm is on the way, saying advance knowledge helps reduce harm during severe weather.
