Slow-moving front brings severe storms and flash-flood risk near Interstate 40

A slow-moving cold front will bring a secondary round of severe weather mainly along and south of Interstate 40 this afternoon and into the evening, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee said.

The agency said areas along and south of Interstate 40 could also receive an additional 1.5 to 2 inches of rain today, creating a potential flash-flood threat.

The National Weather Service in Memphis posted the guidance on its social channels, noting the front’s slow progression as the reason for the heightened threat, the agency said.

The agency urged residents to heed local warnings and advisories, the National Weather Service in Memphis said.
