Tupelo fire department to hold hazmat training with railroads downtown

The Tupelo Fire Department said BNSF and Kansas City Southern will provide in-depth hazardous-materials training near the Mill district in downtown Tupelo on Tuesday the 12th, Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th.

The department said residents may see a heavy emergency vehicle presence and personnel wearing high-level hazmat suits during the exercises. Officials urged the public to be aware that the activity is part of the training.

The department thanked BNSF and Kansas City Southern for providing the training, the notice said.

The Tupelo Fire Department said some no-cost spots are available for other departments and first responders interested in attending. Those seeking a spot were directed to contact Deputy Chief of Operations Jesse Clock at jesse.clock@tupeloms.gov.
