Tupelo man charged with first-degree murder in shooting death

Tupelo police have charged Kenneth A. Jenkins, 20, with first-degree murder following a shooting that resulted in a man’s death on Lambard Drive.

The incident began on July 8, when officers responded to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center to treat a victim with a gunshot wound to the foot. Police also investigated multiple homes hit by gunfire on Bienville Street. While at the scene, officers heard gunshots south of their location.

Shortly afterward, authorities discovered a deceased individual with multiple gunshot wounds on Lambard Drive. Detectives from the Tupelo Police Department Criminal Investigation Division responded to all three locations, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

On July 10, police announced that Jenkins, who was in custody on unrelated charges, had been formally charged with first-degree murder. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Jenkins held without bond. The case will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury. Police noted that the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests or charges could occur.
