NHTSA: Motorcyclists weave to increase visibility, agency says

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says motorcyclists often weave within lanes to increase their chances of being seen by other road users.

The agency said motorcycles have a smaller profile and take up less mirror space than cars, which makes them easier to overlook.

NHTSA advised drivers to check mirrors and blind spots and to check twice before changing lanes to reduce the risk of striking a motorcycle.

The agency said increased awareness and routine checks by drivers can improve motorcycle safety on the road.
