2 killed, 7 wounded in Centreville mass shooting

Two people were killed and seven others wounded in a shooting near the Orchard Café on Highway 24 in Centreville at about 12:55 a.m. Saturday, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded after Fields Health System notified Wilkinson County E-911 Dispatch that multiple gunshot victims had arrived at the hospital’s emergency room. Investigators determined nine people with gunshot wounds had been transported to the hospital by private vehicles.

Investigators said two adult Black males died of their injuries. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. Three other victims were transferred to an out-of-area trauma center for further treatment, and four were treated and released, the office said.

The Centreville Police Department, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office and assisting agencies processed the scene and conducted interviews. The sheriff’s office described the investigation as active and said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to assist. Authorities asked anyone with information, photographs or video to call the Centreville Police Department at (601) 645-5917 or the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 888-3511, or submit anonymous tips to Southwest Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 1-888-442-5001.
