JACKSON, Miss. — Faith leaders called on Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson to retract statements about banning Sharia law, saying the comments were misleading and inflammatory, WJTV reported.
Gipson, a Republican, told WJTV 12 News that he will not back away from his stance to ban Sharia law if elected governor, the station reported.
WJTV reported that faith groups and local organizations raised concerns about Gipson’s remarks. Working Together Mississippi and Working Together Jackson were among the groups mentioned by the station.
The station did not provide further details about the specific comments or any planned actions by the faith leaders, WJTV reported.
