Former GOP strategist Stuart Stevens says ‘there is no Republican Party’
Stuart Stevens, a longtime Republican political strategist and author, has distanced himself from the GOP over its recent direction. The Mississippi native, who has managed campaigns for numerous congressional, senatorial, gubernatorial, and presidential races, made the comments in an audio recording obtained by The Associated Press.
Stevens told listeners, “There is no Republican party … it has turned into the pro-tariffs party.” He added that the GOP, in many ways, now leans to the left of the Democratic Party on certain issues. Stevens, author of the New York Times bestseller “It Was All a Lie,” expressed concern about the party’s current trajectory.
The strategist also shared his views on Mississippi’s upcoming midterm elections, the performance of Sen. Roger Wicker as armed services chair, and offered a few pointed comments about former Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin.
