IRS extends tax deadlines to Nov. 2 for five Mississippi counties after May storms
The Internal Revenue Service said Monday that residents and businesses in Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln and Wilkinson counties have until Nov. 2 to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.
The relief covers individuals and households that reside or have a business in those counties, the IRS said. The agency said the action is aimed at communities affected by straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding and severe storms that began May 6.
The postponement follows a Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster declaration, which permits the IRS to delay certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers in the disaster area, the IRS said.
The Nov. 2 deadline applies to individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2025 individual income tax return, the IRS said. Because tax payments related to those 2025 returns were due April 15, 2026, those payments are not eligible for the relief, the agency said.
The IRS said the deadline also applies to affected quarterly payroll and certain excise tax returns normally due July 31. The agency posted a full release online, the IRS said.
