Jaylon Tolbert accounts for six touchdowns as Alcorn State routs Miles 56-7

Jaylon Tolbert threw for five touchdowns and ran for another as Alcorn State opened its football season with a 56-7 victory over Miles on Saturday night.

In his second season with the Braves after transferring from Howard, Tolbert completed 25 of 28 passes for 265 yards. He also rushed eight times for 28 yards. The Braves, who finished the 2025 season with four wins in their last five games, got off to a slow start before taking control in the first quarter.

Alcorn State scored its first touchdown with 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter, when Tolbert connected with wide receiver Jamarr Ebron on a 26-yard pass. Ebron added another touchdown later in the game, and Elijah Griffin, Nolan Chambers, and Ernest Temple each caught scoring passes from Tolbert.

Defensively, veteran defensive end Eric Thomas Jr. led the team with six tackles. Miles scored its only touchdown as time expired in the first quarter, on a 61-yard pass from Glen McWilliams to Brinley Vandiver.

Alcorn State is scheduled to return to action Saturday, Sept. 6, at Southern Miss. Miles will travel to face Edward Waters on the same day.
