Man sentenced to life for impersonating police to kidnap, sexually assault women

A north MS man has been sentenced to life in prison after impersonating police and sexually assaulting women in north MS.

From the Lee county sheriffs office:

During the early morning hours of August 26, 2017, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department was notified that an individual impersonating law enforcement had attempted to kidnap a female at knifepoint. This incident took place on Birmingham Ridge Road near the intersection of Road 681. The victim was able to escape the attempt and immediately contacted law enforcement. Subsequent to a prompt and complete investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, a suspect was identified and arrested. Suspect Louis Winston Scott was taken into custody and charged with one (1) count of Attempted Kidnapping.

It was further discovered by the investigation, and cooperation with the Union County Sheriff’s Department, that suspect Scott had also committed a similar offense in Union County within minutes of the failed attempt in Lee County. Unfortunately, suspect Scott was able to kidnap, rob and sexually batter the female victim in Union County.Upon the arrest of suspect Scott, with the cooperation of the Union County Sheriff’s Department and the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department, it was discovered that suspect Scott was a registered sex offender in Mississippi and had been released from prison for similar offenses. Suspect Scott was returned to prison after revocation to serve the remainder of his sentence which was 15 years.

On May 13, 2019 suspect Louis Winston Scott was tried by a jury in the Circuit Court of Lee County, Mississippi for one (1) count of Attempted Kidnapping. Suspect Scott was found guilty after a three and one half day (3 ½) trial and after a jury deliberation of less than 25 minutes. On May 14, 2019, convicted felon Louis Winston Scott was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge John White to a term of life without the possibility of parole to be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Scott also is expected to stand trial in Union County, Mississippi for his actions at a later date.
