Mississippi State, Ole Miss land spots in NCAA softball tournament
The NCAA placed Mississippi State and Ole Miss in the 64-team NCAA softball tournament, with the Bulldogs sent to the Eugene regional and the Rebels to the Lubbock regional, according to the tournament bracket.
Mississippi State (38-18, 9-15 SEC) will open the double-elimination Eugene regional Friday at 6:30 p.m. Central against Saint Mary’s at Jane Sanders Stadium, the NCAA said. Oregon, the No. 14 seed, will host the regional, which also includes Idaho State. The winner advances to the super regional to face the Norman regional champion, hosted by No. 3 seed Oklahoma; the Norman regional field includes Kansas, Michigan and Binghamton, the NCAA said.
“We are excited to be back in the postseason and be one of the remaining 64 teams competing across the country,” Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts said. “We’re looking forward to getting out to Eugene and preparing for three quality opponents that we may face in the regional.”
Ole Miss (34-24, 6-18 SEC) will open the Lubbock regional Friday at 1 p.m. Central against Boston, the NCAA said. No. 11 seed Texas Tech is hosting the Lubbock regional, which also includes Marist. The Lubbock winner will move on to a super regional against the Gainesville regional champion, hosted by No. 6 seed Florida; the Gainesville field features Texas State, Georgia Tech and Florida A&M, the NCAA said.
