Starkville Man Suspected in Double Homicide in Winston County
According to the Winston County Sheriff’s Department, a Starkville man is currently a suspect in the tragic deaths of his mother and girlfriend in Winston County.
Sheriff Mike Perkins reported that deputies responded to a call on Thursday evening regarding a homicide at Zion Ridge Road. The victims, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, are believed to have been killed earlier in the week, either on Monday or Tuesday.
Following the incident, the Winston County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on social media Thursday night identifying Carlos Daniels as a person of interest. Daniels was apprehended a few hours later in Scott County. Sheriff Perkins confirmed that there are two crime scenes related to the case, withholding details about the second location.
Authorities have not disclosed the method of the killings or how Daniels swiftly became a suspect in the investigation.
Prior to this tragic event, Daniels already had outstanding warrants for misdemeanors in Winston County and a contempt of court charge in Starkville. He was previously arrested for allegedly stealing a truck from a Lowe’s parking lot, an incident which led to him removing his ankle monitor, resulting in the Starkville charge.
As of Friday morning, Daniels has not been formally charged in connection with the homicides. However, investigators anticipate charges will be filed as the case progresses.
