Suspect in custody after man dies after police called to assault at Steele’s Dive

An incident after midnight in Tupelo has left a man dead and a person arrested.

On Saturday, Tupelo police released the following:

Update 04-16-22

The victim from last nights assault has passed away. A suspect had been taken into custody for aggravated assault at approximately 6:45 pm today.

Detectives will be conferring with the District Attorney’s office regarding upgraded homicide charges. More information will be released when appropriate.

On 04-16-2022 at approximately 1:30 am Tupelo Police were called to 4187 West Main (Steele’s Dive) for an assault.

Officers located an adult male victim being treated by EMS. The male victim was transported to NMMC ER in very critical condition.

Investigators are gathering physical evidence and statements. More information will be released when appropriate.
