Mississippi officials celebrate completion of new bridge on State Route 149

Officials gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a bridge replacement project on State Route 149 near Dlo Water Park in Simpson County.

Speakers included Charles Busby, Mississippi Department of Transportation Southern District Transportation Commissioner; Willie Simmons, Mississippi Transportation Commission chairman; Sen. Andy Berry; and D’Lo Mayor John Henry Berry.

The bridge project was under construction when a work site accident in October 2024 resulted in the deaths of three workers. The incident is under investigation, according to local authorities.

A future ceremony will formally dedicate the bridge as the “Badger-Malone-Igleharte Memorial Bridge” in honor of Charles Badger, Kevin Malone, and Charles Igleharte, who lost their lives in the accident.
