Army student at West Point holds sign reading ‘The Forward Pass is Communist’ ahead of Air Force game

An Army student at West Point held a sign reading “The Forward Pass is Communist” ahead of Saturday’s game against Air Force, drawing notice and prompting a chest bump from former NFL player Mark Ingram II, Fox News reported.

Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff visited West Point and noted the sign in the buildup to the matchup, linking it to Army’s run-heavy offensive approach.

According to Fox News, through eight games in 2026 Army led the FBS in rushing yards per game (342.5), totaling 2,740 yards on 431 rushing attempts — an average of 53.9 carries per game — with 6.4 yards per carry and 31 rushing touchdowns.

Fox News reported Army ranked 137th out of 138 FBS teams in passing yards per game (69.1), attempting 85 passes all season (10.6 per game), the second-fewest in the country behind Air Force. The Black Knights had thrown four touchdown passes compared with 31 rushing touchdowns, with nearly 83% of offensive plays coming on rushing attempts, the article said.

Army (5-3) was scheduled to host Air Force (6-2) at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET as part of the annual Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy competition; Army was seeking its fourth consecutive victory over the Falcons, Fox News reported.
