Banks, Kim introduce bill to expand stuttering screening for children

Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J., introduced legislation Wednesday aimed at improving identification and treatment for children who stutter, their offices said.

The bill, titled the Kidd’s Stuttering Act, would direct the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to add stuttering and fluency screening, the senators said.

The measure was introduced with support from former NBA player Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the senators’ offices said. Banks and Kim framed the proposal as an effort to expand early detection and access to care for children who stutter.
