El-Sayed apologizes to Jewish Democrats for synagogue comment

Abdul El-Sayed apologized Saturday for comments he made following an attack on a Detroit-area synagogue earlier this year, his campaign confirmed.

“I made a mistake,” El-Sayed said during an appearance before the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus, according to a transcript of his remarks.

The apology comes as El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, seeks to ease concerns among Jewish voters ahead of the November election.

He addressed the caucus as part of ongoing outreach to the state’s Jewish community, saying he regretted his earlier comments related to the synagogue attack.
