Rep. Joyce Beatty questions Trump administration’s threat to demolish Kennedy Center
Rep. Joyce Beatty of Ohio said Saturday she believes the legal fight over the Kennedy Center could prevent the Trump administration from demolishing the cultural landmark. The administration earlier this week raised the possibility of tearing down the center as part of a broader redevelopment plan.
Beatty, an ex officio member of the Kennedy Center board, has previously challenged proposed changes by the Trump administration. She questioned whether the government would be able to proceed with demolition amid ongoing legal disputes.
It is unclear what legal hurdles might impede efforts to demolish the Kennedy Center, which is a national cultural institution. The center’s representatives and the Trump administration did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
