Fauci Lawyers Launch Legal Defense Fund Amid Mounting Investigations

Lawyers representing Dr. Anthony Fauci have created a legal defense fund as investigations into the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director continue to expand. The fund aims to support Fauci’s legal expenses amid mounting inquiries from federal and state authorities, according to the defense team’s website.

Fauci, who retired in 2022 after nearly four decades leading NIAID, has been accused by Republicans of misleading the public about the origins of COVID-19. He also faces calls for prosecution, notably from Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who urged the Justice Department to pursue charges after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment multiple times during a July congressional hearing. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, led by Paul, held Fauci in contempt of Congress following the hearing.

Fauci has denied all allegations. His lawyers said the legal defense fund was established to cover expenses related to ongoing investigations. They added that any remaining funds after legal matters are resolved would be donated to charity. Fauci previously advised seven presidents and was a prominent voice during the pandemic, advocating for masks, social distancing, and vaccines.

Amid the investigations, Florida’s attorney general has issued a subpoena to Fauci, examining whether he personally profited from pandemic-related guidance. Louisiana and West Virginia have expressed support for Florida’s efforts. Meanwhile, a former Fauci advisor pleaded guilty to attempting to conceal pandemic documents from public records laws, according to reports.

Fauci’s legal team and Paul’s office did not respond to requests for comment. The case continues to unfold as authorities scrutinize Fauci’s role during the COVID-19 crisis.
