Guinness World Records confirmed this week that the July 4 fireworks display in Washington, D.C., set a new world record for the largest fireworks show in history. The display involved 840,537 fireworks, organized by Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico, Inc., at an event arranged by Event Strategies Inc., according to the organization’s website.
The event, which coincided with the nation’s 250th anniversary, faced weather delays that led to evacuations on the National Mall. Despite the setbacks, hundreds of thousands of spectators watched the fireworks, which began just before midnight and lasted about 40 minutes.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum explained in June that the fireworks would be launched from multiple sites, including barges, due to the event’s scale. He told the Washington Reporter that unlike previous years, fireworks would not be limited to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool area.
The White House launched the Freedom 250 initiative months ago as a public-private partnership, with President Donald Trump serving as chair. The previous record for largest fireworks display was held by a 2016 New Year’s Eve show organized by a megachurch, which featured 810,904 fireworks, according to The Washington Post.
Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez told Fox News Digital that the July 4 show was a 40-minute spectacular lighting up the Potomac River and surrounding areas with over 850,000 fireworks. She described it as a symbol of unity and resilience as the nation marked its 250th birthday.
The White House praised the event, stating that no other president in history could have achieved such a feat during the 250th celebration. The statement highlighted the air show, fireworks display, and speeches delivered before a large patriotic audience. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
