Sen. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat from Colorado, won his party’s primary Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ. He is vying for a second term in the U.S. Senate.
Hickenlooper defeated Julie Gonzales, a labor organizer and state senator, who mounted a strong challenge from the left. Gonzales criticized the incumbent during the campaign.
The primary results set the stage for the general election in Colorado, a state considered competitive in federal races this year.
