Jon Rahm experiences frustrating round at U.S. Open, drops expletive after missed putt

Jon Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, had a difficult day at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, finishing with a 78 to miss the cut at this year’s tournament. The Spaniard started Thursday well, shooting 2-under par in the opening round, but things quickly unraveled on Friday.

Rahm encountered frustration on the ninth hole after missing a crucial birdie putt to the right. In a moment of anger, he flipped his club and exclaimed, “F–k off!” according to video footage. The outburst highlighted the universal challenges golfers face when dealing with missed opportunities.

His struggles continued throughout the back nine, where he bogeyed five consecutive holes. In total, Rahm posted three bogeys on the front nine and five on the back, resulting in a score of 6-over par for the tournament. This score left him well outside the cut line and marked a disappointing end to his week at the U.S. Open.

The week was notably frustrating for Rahm, who appeared to be battling his game and emotions as he faced a tough Friday. His early-round momentum was derailed, and he ultimately did not advance in the tournament, bringing his challenging week to a close.
