Several LIV Golf players are expressing steadfast support for the tour amid reports that funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will cease after the 2026 season. The breakaway golf league, which has relied on this backing to offer high purses and attract top talent, faces an uncertain future.
Bryson DeChambeau indicated that his plans are unclear, suggesting he might focus on his YouTube career if he is unable to rejoin the PGA Tour. He also praised LIV’s team model, calling it a success that has created value for players, according to sources.
Thomas Pieters also stated he has no plans to return to the PGA Tour and hopes LIV can navigate these challenges. Meanwhile, Thomas Detry, a member of LIV’s 4Aces team, reaffirmed his commitment to LIV in an interview with the ‘Beyond the Clubhouse’ podcast. He praised LIV’s product, saying the tour’s tournaments are excellent and the format has changed his perception of the league.
Detry emphasized that most players enjoy LIV and wish to see the tour succeed. He called for unity among players and expressed support for the league’s future, despite uncertainties about funding. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil recently sent a memo to staff urging cohesion amid the financial concerns.
While some analysts predicted LIV might fold after the PIF’s withdrawal, players’ loyalty suggests many prefer LIV’s format over the PGA Tour, citing benefits such as shorter schedules and fewer tournaments. LIV Golf is currently hosting an event at Trump National in Virginia, with all players participating, indicating continued commitment. It remains uncertain whether LIV will sustain itself beyond 2026 without new investors.
