A man charged in New Mexico with forgery and larceny and convicted of arranging a hit on his estranged wife has been linked to a 26-year-old fire in Monaco, prosecutors said.
The blaze in Monaco killed a billionaire and his private nurse 26 years earlier, prosecutors said. Authorities in Monaco investigated the deaths at the time, prosecutors added.
Prosecutors said the same man was at the center of the Monaco case but was using a different name there. They did not provide further identifying details in the statement, according to court records cited by prosecutors.
The New Mexico charges and the earlier Monaco connection are part of an ongoing legal matter, prosecutors said. Officials have continued to review documents and evidence related to both the current case and the decades-old fire, prosecutors added.
