Maryland sports betting live since Dec. 9, 2021; more than 10 apps and 13 retail sportsbooks available

Maryland has offered legal sports betting since Dec. 9, 2021, and bettors can now choose from more than 10 licensed sportsbook apps and 13 licensed retail sportsbooks across the state.

That summary appears in a Fox News guide to Maryland sports betting.

The guide says sports betting in Maryland is regulated by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission and the minimum wagering age is 21. It notes the law was signed in May 2021 under House Bill 940, the first sportsbook went live on Dec. 9, 2021, and mobile sports betting launched Nov. 23, 2022.

Fox News reports bettors do not need to be Maryland residents to place wagers but must be physically located in the state to do so. The guide also states bettors may wager on college teams in Maryland but, as of 2024, cannot place college player props; college player futures and season-long bets remain permitted.

The guide describes common promotional offers available to new users, including profit-boost bets, deposit matches and bet-and-get options, and warns that many bonuses are provided as bonus bets that expire.

Fox News lists 13 licensed retail locations in Maryland:

  • MGM National Harbor (BetMGM Sportsbook) — Oxon Hill
  • Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland (FanDuel Sportsbook) — Hanover
  • Horseshoe Casino Baltimore (Caesars Sportsbook) — Baltimore
  • Hollywood Casino Perryville (ESPN BET) — Perryville
  • Ocean Downs Casino (TwinSpires Sportsbook) — Berlin
  • Northwest Stadium / FedEx Field (Fanatics Sportsbook) — Landover

  • The Greene Turtle – Canton (betPARX Sportsbook) — Baltimore

  • Sports & Social Bethesda (FanDuel Sportsbook) — North Bethesda

The guide also notes Maryland has three professional teams identified for wagering examples: the MLB’s Baltimore Orioles and the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders.

Fox News advises that bettors may use multiple sportsbooks and suggests comparing offerings to find a preferred provider.
